Celtic take on Rangers this weekend in the first Glasgow Derby of the 2023/24 season.

It is set to be an arduous match for the Bhoys, although winger Yang Hyun-jun has played down its significance.

The South Korean winger made his maiden start for the Hoops on Saturday in a goalless draw with St. Johnstone. Yang turned out to be a bright spark on what was otherwise a dull day for Celtic, constantly willing to drive forward and take on his man.

Supporters will be hoping the 21-year-old can carry such form into the weekend, and Yang has spoken out ahead of the upcoming derby, quipping he’ll treat it like every other game. He said (Glasgow Times): “I think it’s just a normal league match, I will train ahead of the match as usual. I was just told there will be no Celtic fans in the stadium and it will be a tough game, but I will work hard ahead of it. I definitely think there are no times that are always good and when something bad comes, there is also good coming too.”

Hopefully, from a Celtic point of view, Yang’s latter words will come to fruition. The Bhoys have been on poor form over the past two weeks, having failed to win or even score against Kilmarnock or St. Johnstone.

Going into the weekend, Brendan Rodgers needs things to change, and Yang’s mentality of attacking the game like any other will only benefit him as he looks to make his bow in a fixture full of history and fire.
