After a lacklustre year in Glasgow, Ideguchi is on loan with J1 League club Avispa Fukuoka, and the 27-year-old isn’t sure whether he’ll be returning to Celtic in January when the season ends in Japan.

Ideguchi’s return to his homeland was marred by an ankle injury during one of his first games back, but in recent months, he has been enjoying regular playing time.

Despite being under contract at Parkhead for another two and a half years, his prospects under manager Brendan Rodgers appear dim, having made just six appearances during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure.

As his season-long loan stint nears its conclusion, Ideguchi admits to being in the dark about Celtic’s intentions for him. He candidly shared his perspective, saying, “At the moment, I am only concentrating on trying to finish as high up the J-League table as I can with Avispa Fukuoka.”

Reflecting on his decision to embark on this loan spell, Ideguchi explained, “I was happy to be offered the chance to play games here at a time when I wasn’t able to play any matches at Celtic, and I had a strong desire to play.”

He continued, quoted by Football Scotland, “There weren’t many clubs who wanted me, but they approached me, so I decided to go right away. It was an instant decision.”

However, as Ideguchi contemplates his future beyond the current season, he expressed uncertainty, saying, “As for next season, I don’t know what’s going to happen or whether I will still stay here. At the moment, there’s no point in looking too far into the future. And that’s why I will do everything I can for the team while I am here.”
