Gordon Strachan has weighed into the nonsense that George Peat created when he said a chairman from a prominent club phoned him personally while he was SFA supremo to tell him NOT to help Rangers with fixtures ahead of their UEFA Cup final.

If you know the history, however, you will know that Rangers got the whole season extended which meant Celtic fans were celebrating their title victory on a Thursday night instead of at the traditional weekend slot.

The Ibrox club tried to blame their fixture congestion for their capitulation and Peat who is an Ibrox fan has suggested that dark forces worked against them as he had to apply the rules.

Yes, that’s right. The club which famously passed on to the next world because they had a squad full of EBT recipients later deemed to be unlawful’s tribute act supporters are complaining about transparency.

Well, that’s not washing with Gordon Strachan – he has told the Ibrox faithful they ‘Blew it’.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Strachan was quick to point out what the Ibrox club had to do in order to win the title that year and how they ultimately failed.

“Wasn’t that the season when Rangers had two games against us and they just needed to draw one of them to wrap up the title?” Strachan cheekily said.

“We had to play them twice in the space of a couple of weeks at home knowing they only needed to take a point away from our place but we managed to beat them twice.

“They had the opportunity to put it to bed with a draw but we won the two games, with big Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scoring a last minute winner in one of them.”

Celtic won the title after Peat helped the season be extended. This was after the Ibrox club needlessly cancelled one of their own game during the season – contributing to their own pileup.

  1. Strapon was an enigma, a very self centre Ginger. But take nothing away fae him. He said Celtic would have to win all their games. And they did. With no help fae any cun7. Changed days when Martin O’NEIL’S squad got fuc&en no help after reading the same Uefa final years earlier. So who are the auld sevco kidding here. Paupers and cheats, I’m glad orange Dick managed to defeat his old squad hands down. By not defending and waiting for extra time and Penalty’s.
