Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan has received high praise from new boss Micky Mellon ahead of his potential debut with new side Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

The young shot-stopper completed a loan move to the League 2 side earlier this week, and it will be his second time working under the Scottish manager who had the 23-year old on an emergency loan towards the end of last season.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Tranmere’s league opener against Walsall this weekend, Mellon had rave reviews for Rovers fans when asked what can be expected of the keeper.

“In my opinion, he’s one of the best young goalkeepers in Scotland

“He played for me at Dundee United and was fabulous. So I got to know him really well.

“When I found that we would need a replacement, he was the first one I thought about.

“He’s at a good age. I’m bringing him down to continue his development going forward. Celtic rate him very, very highly. That’s why they wanted him to sign a contract before we could get him.”

Doohan has been a tad unfortunate to not see some form of action in recent months with the Hoosp goalkeeping problems last season and going into this campaign too.

The signing of Joe Hart knocked the youngster further down the pecking order, so going out on loan is best for his development to get more first-team minutes and expereince.

It potentially says a lot that the club decided to renew Doohan’s contract before heading out. So hopefully, during this spell down south, we can see him live up to his potential.
