Celtic are interested in a January move for Liverpool defender Luke Chambers, with a potential loan deal being considered.
That’s according to transfer reporter Alan Nixon, who claims the left-back could be allowed to leave Anfield in the winter after failing to secure a move away during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is a familiar name to some Scottish football supporters, having previously spent time on loan with Kilmarnock.
Chambers joined the Ayrshire club in January 2023 and made his senior debut against Dundee United, providing the assist for the only goal of the game.
Then-Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes was full of praise for the youngster afterwards, describing it as a “great debut”. He applauded his “refreshing attitude” and maturity when on loan.
Chambers returned to Liverpool and went on to make his first-team debut later that year.
He came off the bench in Liverpool’s 3-1 League Cup victory over Leicester City at Anfield in September 2023 before making his first start a month later in a 5-1 Europa League win over Toulouse.
The defender was also part of the England Under-19 side which won the European Championship in 2022.
Despite his experience at senior and international youth level, Chambers has found it difficult to establish himself in Liverpool’s first-team picture and has spent some time away from the club on loan.
The Hoops have already had to deal with injury problems at left-back this season, with Kieran Tierney missing games and summer arrival Landon Emenalo also joining the club while recovering from an injury.
A move for another left-back in January doesn’t seem likely, as things stand just now.
