Celtic have received a welcome update regarding Kasper Hogh and Kieran Tierney.

The duo missed Celtic’s 2-1 win at St Mirren due to injury, despite Shaun Maloney being hopeful they’d return in time. Hogh has been absent since the LASK match, while Tierney was forced off in the following game against Falkirk.

It left the Hoops light at left-back, with Liam Scales stepping in to fill the void and score in Paisley on Saturday night.

Camilo Duran has comfortably filled in for Hogh and returned to his favoured position up top. He’s scored three goals and registered two assists in his last three appearances.

Martin O’Neill’s side are on the road again as they face St Johnstone on Wednesday night. It is the rearranged fixture that was postponed due to the Champions League play-off legs, with the Perth side also securing a league victory at the weekend.

And there is positive news for The Celts as Hogh and Tierney both took part in training ahead of the midweek clash, as per Sky Sports’ footage from Lennoxtown.

Alistair Johnston was also spotted doing a light session but is still not expected to return until October. Nevertheless, it’s welcome news.

It immediately bolsters O’Neill’s options in two key areas, but the games now come thick and fast, and the duo’s gametime could be managed carefully.

Wednesday night’s clash will be broadcast live on Sky and marks the first of four games within 12 days for the champions. After St Johnstone, they face a trip to Ibrox on Sunday in the League Cup quarter-final, then kick off their Europa League campaign four days later against Ferencváros. They then host Rangers at Celtic Park on September 20 in the final fixture before the international break.

Hogh and Tierney’s returns are a timely boost, with the squad expected to be utilised to its fullest over the course of the next two weeks.
