While Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side was embarrassed in Govan yesterday afternoon, Grant Scott got one Celtic team into the next round of a cup competition.
Rangers ran out 3-0 winners against a Celtic side who looked like they had no plan and simply couldn’t adapt to James Penrice stepping into midfield. The ball spent more time with Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Sam Johnstone than it did anywhere else.
After the third goal went in the captain told his teammates ‘no more goals’, maybe Callum McGregor should’ve said that after the first!
But while the embarrassment was ongoing in the southside, Celtic FC Women were playing their own match.
And they’ve booked their place in the Quarter-Finals of the Sky Sports Cup.
Casey Howe’s first-half strike gave the Hoops a 1-0 lead and they saw that out against the Spartans to progress in the competition.
The Ghirls dominated proceedings, but the away side did have their chances and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
So, at least Celtic had one team progressing in cup competition yesterday.
It’s back to the drawing board for Martin O’Neill and his staff, who need to come up with a plan for when Rangers travel to Celtic Park next Sunday, after Celtic play Europa League football on Thursday.
