Colby Donovan Responds to Scotland Call-Up Speculation

Colby Donovan has addressed Scotland manager Sébastien Pocognoli’s presence at Celtic vs LASK on Wednesday night.

The new Scotland boss was at Celtic Park to see Donovan put in a performance far beyond his years in the 3-0 win, stepping up and rising to the occasion.

That display has led to speculation and calls for the Celtic defender to be named in Pocognoli’s first Scotland squad next month.

However, Donovan played down the speculation when speaking after the game and is instead focused on continuing where he left off against LASK.

He said (TCW): “I just want to do the job for the club, going into games.

“I kind of don’t think about that.

“After a game, you see it on your phone on social media and all that. Obviously the new Scotland manager has come in.

“You just need to give 110 per cent performance for your club and give him a thought that maybe this boy can play. For him, hopefully, I’ve played a good part in the game tonight.”

Donovan has certainly done his Scotland chances no harm and, given the fact he is currently displacing Anthony Ralston, a regular member of the national team, it makes sense for the 19-year-old to be given his first senior cap.

Pocognoli is well known for his willingness to give young players an opportunity, and it will be a real acid test if he names Donovan in the squad.

Celtic supporters are quietly growing confident that this could be the season the Hoops youngster breaks through and cements himself in the team, with Alistair Johnston currently out for an extended period following a scan on Thursday.
