Celtic have confirmed their 25-man squad list for the 26/27 Europa League.

The summer window is now closed, with Celtic adding ten new faces to the squad. Three of them have missed out and will not participate in the league phase of their Europa League journey. 

The Hoops host Ferencváros in the opening match on September 17 before a tough away trip to Benfica on October 15.

It’s then back-to-back games in Glasgow against Celta Vigo (October 22) and Besiktas (November 5). They then face an away tie against Torreense on November 26, followed by a trip to Cyprus to face Omonia on December 10.

Their first European home match of 2027 sees them host French giants Marseille on January 21. Their final match of the league phase is away to Union Saint-Gilloise (January 28).

Martin O’Neill has spoken of the ‘very tough decision’ to omit certain players, but admits that changes could be made come February, should the Hoops advance to the knockout round. Celtic can make up to three changes to the squad if they progress from the league phase. O’Neill said (Celtic Player):

“It’s a difficult list and, for me, the most important thing is our domestic football.

“Of course, we’re disappointed about the Champions League but the Europa League is still very strong, and we want to try and do as well as we possibly can in that, but the players we have signed, we want them to make a mark initially in the domestic scene, which is the most important thing for us at this stage.

“Then, we’ve got a chance to perhaps change things in February if we’re still in contention.”

Camilo Duran, Mika Baur, Haissem Hassan and Kasper Høgh are joined by three of the latest signings: Oliver Sorensen, Jordan Lotomba and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

It means there is no place for Chelsea loanees Landon Emenalo or Shim Mheuka, nor for permanent addition Joel van den Berg, who arrived in a deal worth up to £3.4 million.

Jota, who hasn’t featured since the end of the 24/25 season, is also absent from the list. He is expected back around October time, but will be eased in as he continues on his road to recovery and full match sharpness.

Some telling decisions to leave new arrivals out. Mheuka looked sharp on his debut, while Emenalo is still a couple of weeks away from fitness.

Van den Berg awaits his debut, and he will have to settle for domestic action to impress after signing a four-year deal. Celtic do, however, have the opportunity to make one outfield and one goalkeeper change to their squad up until matchday six in the event of a long-term injury.
