Colby Donovan is reportedly set to receive his first Scotland call-up following an impressive start to the season with Celtic.
As the international break approaches, attention is beginning to turn towards which Hoops players will represent their countries and who will remain at Lennoxtown for some valuable recovery time.
There is particular excitement surrounding Scotland’s latest squad announcement. Steve Clarke’s departure has given the national team an opportunity to begin a new cycle under a younger manager with fresh ideas.
That could open the door for emerging players while some of the more experienced members of the squad begin to approach the end of their international careers.
Donovan is expected to be among those given an opportunity when Sebastian Pocognoli’s full squad is announced at 11am, SunSport reports.
The Celtic right-back has enjoyed an excellent few weeks at club level and appears to be improving with every appearance. He has stepped into the side during Alistair Johnston’s injury absence and handled the responsibility impressively.
The youngster has looked increasingly comfortable in the first team, showing composure on the ball while providing energy down the right-hand side.
His expected inclusion would be a deserved reward for his recent performances and another important milestone in his development.
Donovan may not be the only Celtic player included, although Kieran Tierney’s place in the Scotland squad has yet to be confirmed.
A first senior international call-up would cap an outstanding start to the campaign for Donovan, who is quickly establishing himself at Celtic.
