Camilo Durán Earns First Colombia Call-Up

Celtic striker Camilo Durán has been called up to the Colombia senior squad for their upcoming international matches.

The Celtic striker is set to join Néstor Lorenzo’s group for the first time after forcing his way into the national-team setup with an excellent start to life in Glasgow.

Colombia are due to face Mexico, Paraguay and Peru during the upcoming international period.

For Durán, the call-up is another major step after only arriving at Celtic from Qarabağ during the summer.

The 24-year-old has quickly become an important part of Martin O’Neill’s attack and his performances have been receiving plenty of attention back home in Colombia.

Durán scored six goals in his opening seven Celtic appearances across all competitions and was named Premiership Player of the Month for August.

He has also shown there is more to his game than finishing.

That was on display again in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over St Mirren, when Durán won possession before releasing Hyun-jun Yang to score Celtic’s winner in Paisley.

Reports in Colombia had already been pushing Durán’s case for international recognition in recent weeks, with his form putting him firmly on Lorenzo’s radar.

He will now get the chance to work with the senior national side and push for his first Colombia cap.

The matches fall during the international break, meaning Celtic will not lose Durán for any scheduled domestic fixtures while he is away.

There will still be plenty of interest in how much football he plays and how he handles the long journey back to Scotland before Celtic resume their Premiership campaign.

His rapid Celtic start has now earned him the international recognition his performances have been pushing towards.
