Benjamin Nygren is still waiting for his first goal against Rangers but insists he would happily remain the provider if Celtic come away from Ibrox with a victory tomorrow.
On the form he’s on at the moment, it will be a surprise to no one if he is amongst the goalscorers tomorrow lunchtime.
The Swedish attacker has already made an impact in the fixture last season, registering two assists in the derby.
Rangers are one of the few Scottish Premiership sides Nygren has yet to score against, but the Celtic star is more concerned with contributing to another positive result than adding to his personal tally.
After his 21 goals last season, the Swede has continued his impressive form into this season.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the season and will be one of the key attacking threats available to Martin O’Neill as Celtic head across Glasgow for the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.
Nygren admits he would love to finally find the net against Rangers, but would be perfectly content with another creative contribution if it helps Celtic progress.
“It would be very nice, but I’m a player who’s not only scoring,” Nygren said to the Herald.
“I want to create a lot of chances and be a threat offensively. I didn’t score, but I assisted in the games.
“If I can do that and the team wins, I’m happy. I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be a good game.”
Nygren has already registered five goals and six assists in nine games this season, making him one of Celtic’s most productive players in the final third.
Another assist at Ibrox would certainly do for the Swede if it comes with Celtic securing a place in the League Cup semi-finals.
