Debuts don’t come much bigger than a Glasgow derby at Ibrox, but it was in such an occasion that Scott Bain made his first appearance for Celtic.
The Scottish champions won the encounter 3-2, even after being reduced to 10 men, and Bain, then on loan from Dundee, made a crucial save to deny Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos a late equaliser and ensure the Hoops returned to Glasgow’s East End with maximum points.
Two months after that, and the stopper signed a permanent deal at Paradise until the summer of 2022. One week after he’d put pen to paper, the Hoops had clinched the Double Treble.
After cutting his teeth in Aberdeen’s Youth Academy set-up, Bain moved on to Alloa Athletic in 2011, and then to Dundee in 2014. At the start of the January transfer window of 2018, the goalkeeper signed for Hibernian on loan, but an unexpected injury to Craig Gordon saw Bain switch to Celtic three weeks later.
Highlights included a fine performance during a UEFA Europa League clash with Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.
Competition for a starting place as goalkeeper at Celtic is, as always, fierce, but Bain enjoyed an extended run during the 2018/19 campaign. Highlights included a fine performance during a UEFA Europa League clash with Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium, as well as a string of top displays throughout the historic and unprecedented Treble Treble trail.
