Filip Benkovic has become a fan favourite since coming to Celtic.

The Croatian has come in and been a totally solid and calming influence in the centre back position. Benkovic is currently on loan at Celtic and is due back at Leicester at the end of the season. Like all successful loan spells, there is a clamour or at least a suggestion Celtic should look to sign players on a permanent basis.

Even though the player seems to be loving his football at Celtic his interview with SportsKe is very telling and sounds like a man who is preparing himself for a big pre-season in the summer where he’ll look to become a first team player for struggling Leicester.

“But I think I have plenty of room for progress. I need to work, to improve, to play in every part of the game, I just have to continue this kind of rhythm with strong work in training.

“It’s important to respect the coaches and team-mates and be honest in training and with everyone around you.

“It’s a formula for growth, a recipe for further progress. I think I’m on the right track.

“I just have to believe in myself, and I definitely believe. I have never lacked self-confidence.

“I want to make another step at the end of the season. I want to show that I can play in the English Premier League.”

Benkovic is currently out injured until at least next month. He will be looking to help Celtic win the league and a potential treble treble on his return if the bhoys make it to the further stages of the Scottish Cup without him.

Having Filip on a permanent basis is a nice thought but Celtic do not have the resources to keep the player beyond the summer.
