Yang Hyun-jun has jetted off to join up with South Korea after helping Celtic beat St Mirren at the weekend.
The Celtic winger has been one of Martin O’Neill’s standout performers at the start of the season, but his excellent run has been interrupted by international duty.
Yang left the pitch early during Celtic’s 2-1 victory in Paisley, with television cameras picking up the winger with ice packs strapped to his legs after being substituted.
There will be some concern for Celtic given the timing, although Yang was already due to depart for South Korea regardless of the issue.
The 23-year-old is now set to join up with the South Korea Under-23 squad ahead of the Asian Games, with his departure having been confirmed before the St Mirren match.
A private taxi firm has since pictured Yang in the back seat of the vehicle as he made his way to begin his journey to the tournament.
His timing could hardly be worse for Celtic. Yang is due to miss a run of important fixtures while representing his country, including the two upcoming meetings with Rangers. Depending on how far South Korea progress, he could also miss Celtic’s Europa League clash with Ferencváros.
O’Neill admitted after the St Mirren win that Celtic will miss the winger, particularly given the form he has shown since the start of the campaign.
Yang signed off his latest Celtic appearance with another goal, calmly finishing to complete the comeback in Paisley.
