There is still a lot of football to be played before anyone is putting green and white ribbons on trophies or putting winners medals around Celtic players necks. But, if Celtic win today’s clash at Rugby Park the league trophy is staying at Paradise.

Surely that’s all Brendan Rodgers needs to say to his players today. There is bound to be a few tired legs and minds that travelled to Kilmarnock. The thought of a winners medal should put a fire under some players if they need it. Managers will always play down talk of winning trophies until it’s mathematically achieved. But Brendan Rodgers will know that his ex-captain faded into the distance yesterday after a boring 0-0 draw at Ibrox.

Gerrard conceded the league yesterday, he said post-match to forget about titles and closing gaps. That’s not the kind of match reaction Rangers* managers get schooled in. Gerrard once again blamed his players, in fact, he has blamed his players after every poor result they have had. It is a mystery that he hasn’t lost the dressing room.

Steve Clark with go head to head with Gerrard on Wednesday night in a Scottish Cup replay. Celtic will board a plane to Spain to try and find a couple of early goals against Valencia. We doubt either fixture will be on the player’s minds today.

Kick off today is at the later time of 4 PM.
