Neil Lennon spoke candidly on Radio 5 live this morning as he discussed Celtic’s defeat in Poland last night.

Lennon had some of his major highs and debilitating lows in this competition and knows how the new manager will be feeling this morning.

He also knows what restrictions Ronny has to work under and conceded this result was coming as the board are not forthcoming with major investment.

Lennon said “I think last night’s result may have been on the cards. There has been no investment in the team.”

It has been widely speculated that one of the reasons Neil Lennon left Celtic was because he seen his budget for this season and raised his white flag.

Ronny would have known these restrictions before taking on the job but might not have foreseen the difficulty getting players to adopt his style of play. There is still plenty of time for this team to learn from Ronny and start playing the way he wants but it’s just too early for that to happen which Lennon acknowledged.

“Ronny Deila has not really had the time to put things in place.” said the Irishman.

Celtic are now facing a year long Champions League exile if they can’t overturn the 4-1 defeat to Legia at Murrayfield next week. A sobering thought for many supporters who live for the nights the big bhoys come to town.

I’m sure Celtic and the fans will bust a gut next week to try and win the tie but it could be too little too late.

No investment for these games may have proved the difference maker.
