Celtic were struggling in the middle of the park last season, there was little energy and Scott Brown wasn’t having a good season.

Ismaila Soro came into the fold and was a breath of fresh air for the support. The midfielder’s enthusiasm and energy gave fans hope.

Soro’s early performances suggested there could be a player there, but since being taken out of the side at the back end of last season for the Scott Brown farewell tour, Soro has struggled.

Under Ange, in the games Ismaila has played, he’s looked erratic and prone to making silly fouls leading to bookings.

I doubt the midfielder would have got as much game time under Ange Postecoglou if everybody was fit. Now, with the manager having no options, Soro wasn’t in the squad against St Johnstone and as far as we are aware, the player was fit for selection.

Soro still has just under three years of his deal left, presuming the final year of his deal isn’t an optional extra for Celtic.

It will be interesting to see if we bring in some more midfield reinforcements in January, there’s potential for Soro to either be moved on permanently or loaned out for the rest of the season.

As it stands right now, we need him in reserve in case we have another injury crisis.
