Andy Walker has issued a clear warning to Rangers’ newly-appointed manager, Philippe Clement, indicating the challenges he faces as he takes on the helm of the Ibrox side.

The manager signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Govan side on Sunday morning.

Celtic currently boasts a seven-point lead in the Premiership, and Walker anticipates that this dominance is set to continue.

The former striker highlighted that Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side, even without hitting their peak form, is comfortably leading the league. With the squad seeing key players coming back from injuries and their summer acquisitions settling in and showing promising signs, the dominance might only increase in the coming times.

“Absolutely this Rangers team could win a trophy before the year is out,” said Walker on Go Radio.

“I don’t think this Rangers squad. This Rangers XI, whatever strongest XI it is. I don’t think they are capable of challenging Celtic for the title.

“So, if the title slips by this year. What’s the format for next season? I only see Celtic getting stronger. They have a manager that everyone is backing. And they have got money to spend.

“He is up against it. Up against a team that’s really strong on the other side of the city. They are winning nearly every trophy.”

At present, all that Celtic needs to focus on is maintaining their momentum. They began the season dealing with injuries but managed to stay firm and get some big results at tough places, thanks largely to the calm and composed leadership of Brendan Rodgers.
