Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was reportedly linked with the managerial position at Brighton & Hove Albion following Graham Potter’s departure to Chelsea last September.

However, Postecoglou has made it clear that there was never a serious chance of him leaving Celtic, especially not in the middle of the season.

Postecoglou humorously noted that a year ago, his profile wasn’t as prominent as it is now, indicating the rise in his reputation due to his success with Celtic before taking the Premier League by storm with Spurs.

He confirmed that there were no discussions with Brighton at that time.

“No-one knew about me a year ago mate,” Postecoglou joked, as quoted by AFP. “No, look I didn’t have discussions with Brighton at the time and to be honest there wasn’t really the possibility that I would leave Celtic mid-season.

“I had only been there a year-and-a-half and even though there was nothing real and people weren’t really saying to me that clubs wanted to talk to me, I kind of knew in my mind that if I was going to do it, it would have to be after the second year because I was never going to leave within the year.”

He left Celtic at the end of that season, after sealing a world record 8th treble with the Bhoys.

His current team, Spurs, travel to Brighton on Thursday and have the chance to move up to third in the Premier League, after Aston Villa dropped points to Man Utd ealrier this week.
