Celtic are set to take on Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening for the second time in less than two weeks. The Bhoys will make the arduous trip to the Spanish capital early next week as they aim to give something back to the travelling away support.

Indeed thousands of Hoops supporters are making the trip to Madrid, and they will have been encouraged by Atleti’s recent result. On Friday evening, they took on Las Palmas.

Away to the side who were 14th in the table heading into the clash and who play their games in Gran Canaria, Diego Simeone’s men lost by two goals to one. A near full-strength team was fielded by the Argentinian gaffer.

His players, however, weren’t up to the mark. Goals for the hosts came in the 51st and 75th minutes. Atletico got one back late on, but it wasn’t enough. A loss was the end result for an Atletico side who will have been extremely disheartened by the scoreline.

It will not fill them and their supporters with much confidence going into Tuesday’s game but at the same time, it could spur them on to bounce back in front of their own fans. From a Celtic perspective, it will be hoped the former proceeds to be true.
