Chris Sutton has perfectly summed up Celtic’s first time back in the Champions League in four years, good, but just not good enough.

The former Celtic striker who regularly served up special nights in Europe during his time watched the bhoys bow out of Europe with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar. It was a fake either side could have won on the night.

For Celtic, the theme of their campaign came to the fore once again; finishing, or lack thereof.

Chris described Celtic’s finishing as bang average. I don’t think anyone could argue with that assessment.

However, he rounded off his thoughts by continuing to back Ange and what he appears to be building at Celtic Park.

The bhoys might be out of Europe prematurely, but now we have a title to defend so we can get back to Europe again next season. If we can keep the nucleus of the squad together, we’d expect the bhoys could do better next time around.

  1. I don’t remember any good performances that lasted 90 minutes and am sick of hearing missed chances, how many chances did Madrid,Leipzig and shackhtar make,a lot more than CELTIC.we are a good spl team and woeful in Europe,we would struggle in the europa league and need to admit it.

  2. 100% agree.

Those were 2 poor CL teams out there tonight.

Ange can say what he likes but we remain miles away from being anywhere near good enough to compete against top European sides, and we can’t even beat average ones at home.

And what the hell has happened to Kyogo?

  3. What infuriates more than the ‘missed chances’ mantra is the ‘we will learn from our mistakes’ claim. Was their goal last night not very similar to the equalizer in Warsaw? Mudryk picked the ball up about the half way line and ran straight into the Celtic box with Juranovic running beside him but refrain from making any attempt at a tackle until he rifled a shot past an out of position Joe Hart into the roof of the net. Not much ‘learning ‘ getting done. It is good its over. Focus on the League. Wea re simply not good enough at the moment. Slow and ponderous. And how many times do we fail to make a simple pass and simply give the ball away? Hatate repeatedly did this trying to make cute passes that almost never come off then giving up almost immediately rather than trying to win the ball back. Lack of bite was clear last night. Too timid.

  4. Too many of the Celtic team are bang average players. Ask yourself how many would have got into O’Neill or Rodger’s teams . The strikers deserve much better service, Abada has never turned up during every game so far

  5. I think we have some very good players who would have made previous teams. Too many have under-performed. Hatate has been very good but should have been hooked 20 minutes earlier last night. His passing was woeful and he seemed to shirk tackles. O’Riley was poor. Kyogo and Abada were terrible. Need to have better quality in some areas but some of these guys are young and will come good.
