Brand new signing Vasilis Barkas will already be a popular figure amongst fans, with his comments today, as he signed a four-year deal, revealing he is ‘raring to go’ ahead of a huge campaign ahead for the hoops.

Speaking to the Celtic website, Barkas has spoken about his experience of playing against the club in 2018 and how he is ready to go, no matter what pressures he is set to face as Celtic number one.

“I’m very happy to come to this very big club and I can’t wait to play my first game. I know how important the season ahead is for Celtic. It’s not just 10IAR, it’s Celtic, we are expected to win every championship. Neil Lennon told me about the club, what they expect from me and I’m ready to show that I’m ready to play for this club.

The manager told me about the fans, and I like that and the pressure. If the coach wants me to play, I’m ready. I came here to play. I’m very excited to get playing competitive football again.

I have one very good friend who has a good relationship with Samaras. He told me he said it’s a very good team and the fans are crazy for the team. I really want to see this.

I’ve already played in the Champions League. I might be young, but I don’t feel pressure to play here. I can’t wait to play for Celtic.”

It is brilliant to hear these comments from Barkas. It shows us how confident he is in his ability and that he is ready to play against no matter what he comes up against.

Neil Lennon may be tempted to through the 26 year-old straight into the mix, for the season opener against Hamilton Accies on Sunday, similarly to what he done with Fraser Forster last season against Hearts just after he joined. The 6 ft 5 keeper played his last game on the 15th of July, so he will likely have some level of match sharpness.

Fingers crossed these comments can make their way onto the park and we can get the best out of our new number one goalkeeper.
