It’s not even been 24 hours since Brendan Rodgers departure and Neil Lennon’s return to Celtic BUT we’ve already had some people rule themselves out as candidates for the full-time position in the summer.

The bookies second favourite to take the job, just below Neil Lennon and perhaps rightly so is Kilmarnock boss Stevie Clarke.

A Celtic fan, an astute manager and someone who has made waves with Kilmarnock since coming to Scotland. However, as the bookies, the media and even the fans wonder what Celtic’s next move will be – Steve Clarke has told everyone to forget about it!

The Killie boss was asked about the permanent Celtic job in the summer and we reported at the weekend about his comments in 2016 where he revealed it would be ‘nice’ if Celtic give him a call, but it appears as if he has soured on the idea.

“I’ve always said I won’t leave Kilmarnock for another Scottish club and that remains the case.” Clarke told SunSport.

“It’s 100 per cent certain that I’ll go back to England. That’s for sure. That’s where my family and my life is.

“I may be second favourite with the bookies but that’s the bookies. I’ve backed a few long shots in my time!

“Listen, you’ll always have that speculation – I’ve come back to Scotland and done a pretty decent job with Kilmarnock.”

You can’t blame him after the couple of weeks he’s had if he doesn’t want to come to the epicentre of what he’s desperately trying to call out. If he thinks the bile he’s subjected to is bad at Killie he would certainly know all about it at Celtic.

It’s a shame that this comes into peoples thinking when taking on such a big job and that sort of life isn’t for everyone. Neil Lennon has been through it all and is still standing today, there’s nothing you can do to the Irishman that would surprise him at this point.

  1. Shameful and shameless Civic Scotland. Terrorised by so-called religion.
If the Scottish public wanted rid of this it would already have been done.
