Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers appeared in front of the media at Lennoxtown this afternoon to provide an update on injuries, and rather notably, contract talks.

The gaffer spoke about young duo Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly. Both 18-year-olds have broken into the first team over the past few months, each making a few appearances and scoring a goal-a-piece.

Reports have been widespread about the future of Vata, and it has been said that midfielder Kelly is on the verge of putting pen to paper.

Today, Rodgers spoke about the duo, praising them and providing an update on their futures: “Him [Daniel Kelly] and Rocco Vata have both been training about for a period of time and have both shown up really well”, he said (Football Scotland).

“Daniel’s had the opportunity more than Rocco has but both players have shown quality and more importantly, for me, as young players they’re showing that willingness to learn and develop and improve.

“Both players I think have been in talks with the club, but I don’t really have any update on that.”

Kelly’s deal is due to expire at the end of the calendar year while Vata’s contract runs out on the last day of May 2024.

Rodgers sees something in both young players given their first-team inclusions and wants them tied down for the long-term future.

They have each been handed rightful opportunities so far and one cannot deny the fact they have taken them with both hands.
