Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of becoming the highest-paid manager in Celtic’s history as he finalises a deal to return for a second stint at the club, SunSport reports.

The Northern Irishman is set to receive a salary exceeding the £2 million he earned during his first term in charge.

Advanced talks have been ongoing for the past 48-72 hours, and an agreement in principle is in place.

Barring any last-minute hitches, the former Liverpool and Leicester boss is poised to make his return to Celtic.

Celtic’s major shareholder, Dermot Desmond, identified Rodgers as his top choice to replace Ange Postecoglou, who recently moved to Tottenham.

Rodgers had a successful tenure at Celtic, winning seven trophies, including an Invincible Treble.

Despite his success, Rodgers’ departure to Leicester in February 2019 was met with disapproval from a significant portion of Celtic supporters. However, Rodgers has always maintained that he had unfinished business at Celtic and expressed a desire to return one day.

Rodgers will be given a substantial transfer budget as Celtic tasked him with elevating the team to the next level. He has already begun assembling a backroom team, with long-serving assistant Chris Davies unlikely to return to Celtic with him.
