Celtic captain Callum McGregor has given his thoughts on the surface at Hampden ahead of the Viaplay Cup final against Rangers.

Hampden is a stadium which the skipper has became well used to over the years having played in a number of cup matches as well as international games for Scotland.

Celtic defeated Kilmarnock 2-0 in the semi final but the state of the surface at the national ground overshadowed the victory as many question why it was in such a mess.

A big part of the way that Ange Postecoglou’s side play football is down to quick passes and movement which can be aided by the surface.

McGregor will be hoping to lead his side to glory once again in a competition which means a lot to the group as the League Cup was the first piece of silverware won under Postecoglou.

It was a race against the clock for ground staff at Hampden to get the grass in better condition for this showpiece spectacle but it looks as though the issue has been sorted going by the images which came out after both managers did their press conferences on Tuesday.

“Obviously, there was big talking points around it after the semi final,” said McGregor speaking to [Celtic TV].

“Good to see that it’s looking better and hopefully come Sunday then we’ll have a really good surface to play on.”

Celtic head into this match in great form and the surface being up to scratch is a welcome boost as the conditions were shocking the last time.
