Carl Starfelt is heavily linked with a move to Celtic and his name has never been far away from our attention since Fabrizio Romano brought the transfer link to light.

The Swedish defender is wanted by the Hoops, and there have been rumours the deal is all but done.

Not yet, according to Rubin Kazan’s Sporting director who has revealed negotiations are still ongoing.

Starfelt has not yet moved to Celtic, but we are negotiating with them,” Oleg Yarovinsky told Sports Business in Russia.

“Until the documents are signed (for Starfelt), the transfer does not take place.”

The good news is Celtic are looking to get the deal done in a position where we badly need reinforcements.

Carl, 26, would appear a suitable replacement for Kris Ajer who wants to leave the club in the coming weeks. The Norweigan was promised a move away from Celtic this summer and he’s so far been frustrated by the club knocking back fairly large bids.

You have to imagine if Celtic get the deal for Carl Starfelt over the line, it would only be a matter of time before Ajer would leave the club.

There have been positive signs things are reaching a conclusion but right now, he’s not a Celtic player.
