Alexandro Bernabei signed for Celtic in a £3m plus deal at the end of June, becoming the first ever Argentine Celtic player.

The defender is coming in as competition for Greg Taylor at left-back or to even timeshare the role. Celtic was short in the left-back position last season and it was our undoing in the semi-final defeat to The Rangers.

Ange Postecoglou will want to get his new defender in and settled as soon as possible. We have six friendlies between July 6 and the end of the month where Alexandro will have the chance to get some minutes with his new teammates.

However, there’s still a question mark over a potential suspension from his final game for Lanus. The Argentine was sent off for a headbutt and given a two-match suspension as a result.

In Europe, these bans usually hold up when players move to other associations but when it’s a South American association, there’s ambiguity if they will send clearance with or without the suspension.

The Express claim Celtic are awaiting the clearance now having provided all the information to the SFA. Should there be no issues, Alexandro will be free to play against Aberdeen in the season opener on July 31. If the suspension kicks in, the player might need to wait for his competitive debut just a little longer.
