Celtic have taken down the Palestine flags set up by the Green Brigade this morning after it emerged the group didn’t seek permission for the display.

The club day they were unaware of the Green Brigades plans and let them in to put up a Scott Brown display for the captain’s final game at Celtic Park.

Many applauded the move by the Green Brigade to shine a light on what’s going on in Palestine at the moment. The board will also commended for allowing the display in the first place.

That’s not been the case and there will be no visible Palestine flags within the stadium come kick off time tonight.

The club writes:

We had invited supporters to pay tribute to our Club captain, Scott Brown, by giving them the opportunity to display their own banners in the stadium.

Unfortunately a small group, which was given access in good faith, has attempted to exploit this opportunity, taken advantage of an occasion intended for our Club captain, Scott Brown, and used it for a different purpose.

Clearly this is unacceptable and the display was immediately taken down by the Club.

This is likely going to cause another debate within the support about politics and football.

We should all have a moral responsibility to shine a light on things, even if it makes some people uncomfortable.

Celtic and the Green Brigade have not had a great relationship over the years with regards to displays. The group obviously felt they needed to make a stand on this occasion but it is the club who have final say.
