Celtic Ibrox Hero Seals Return to Homeland

Former Celtic striker Tomas Cvancara has sealed another move away from Borussia Monchengladbach, joining Czech side Hradec Kralove on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season at Celtic after arriving in January on loan from the Bundesliga club. The Hoops held an option to buy as part of that deal, but chose not to trigger it once the campaign ended.

Cvancara’s time in Glasgow had its moments, but never fully caught fire. He scored his first Celtic goal in a 2-0 win over Falkirk and also converted the winning penalty in the Scottish Cup shootout win over Rangers at Ibrox.

There were flashes of the player Celtic hoped they were getting, but not enough consistency to justify a permanent move. The buy option was believed to be around £7million, and Celtic decided to move in a different direction during the summer.

That left Cvancara back at Monchengladbach with his future unclear, and he has now returned to Czech football with Hradec Kralove for the season.

The move gives him a chance to play regular football again after a difficult couple of years. His spell at Celtic came after a tough period away from Gladbach, and while he did contribute in some key moments, it was clear by the end of the season that a longer stay at Parkhead was unlikely.

Celtic have since reshaped their forward options, with Camilo Duran making an excellent start to life in Glasgow and Shumaira Mheuka arriving on loan from Chelsea.

For Cvancara, this is a fresh opportunity back in familiar surroundings. For Celtic, it is another reminder of how quickly the striker picture has changed since last season.
