Celtic is reportedly set to enhance their bid for Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden in the upcoming January transfer window. [Football Scotland]

This strategic move emerges as Celtic anticipates the absence of key players due to the Asian Cup. Notably, Kyogo Furuhashi, a crucial figure in the team, is expected to join the Japanese squad, and Daizen Maeda might also depart for the tournament as well as South Korean striker Oh. This situation leaves Celtic potentially without a natural striker, amplifying the urgency to reinforce their attacking options.

Kvistgaarden, a 21-year-old talent from Brondby, initially attracted Celtic’s interest last summer. The Scottish giants contemplated a £4 million bid for him, but Brondby’s valuation of nearly £7.5 million stalled the move.

Despite not meeting the asking price, Celtic’s interest has persisted. Kvistgaarden’s impressive performance in Denmark, netting five goals in 15 games, along with his standout role in the Danish under-21 team, has kept him on Celtic’s radar.

However, securing Kvistgaarden’s services may not be straightforward. Bundesliga clubs are also eyeing the young striker, potentially ready to surpass Celtic’s offer. This competition adds a layer of complexity to Celtic’s pursuit.

Celtic’s focus appears firmly on Kvistgaarden as they prepare for the title run-in, looking to fill the impending void in their attacking line-up. This proactive approach in the transfer market is the right thing to do with so much on the line, not least the direct access to the new Champions League next season and the money that brings into the club.
