Celtic Midfielder Set For Loan Exit As Deal Agreed

Odin Thiago Holm looks set for a return to Norway, with Vålerenga moving to bring the midfielder back on loan from Celtic before the transfer window shuts. [TV2]

The 23-year-old joined Celtic in 2023 from the Oslo club in a deal worth around £2.6 million. At the time, he arrived with a strong reputation, having already built a solid run of games in the Norwegian top flight.

His time in Glasgow has not quite developed as expected. Minutes have been limited, and a consistent run in the side has been hard to find. A loan move to Los Angeles FC earlier this year was meant to offer that opportunity, but game time there was also restricted.

Now, a return to familiar surroundings appears to be the next step. Vålerenga have been in talks with Celtic and, as it stands, there reportedly is a verbal agreement in place between the clubs for a loan deal. There is no option to buy included at this stage, with the move viewed as a straight loan.

Holm is expected to travel to Oslo to complete the move, with both sides working against the clock ahead of the transfer deadline. The deal still needs to be finalised, but there is confidence it will be completed in time.

From a football point of view, the move makes sense. Holm knows the league, the club, and the expectations that come with playing there. That removes the adjustment period he has faced elsewhere.

For Celtic, it offers a chance for the player to get regular minutes. That has been the missing part of his time since arriving. Without that, it has been difficult for him to build any rhythm or show his full ability.

Back at Vålerenga, he is likely to step straight into a side where he will be trusted on the ball. That should suit his game and give him the platform he has been missing over the past few years.
