Confirmed: Landon Emenalo Joins Celtic on Season-Long Loan

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Landon Emenalo from Chelsea, but the young defender has not been included in tonight’s squad to face Aberdeen at Celtic Park.

The 18-year-old joins the Hoops on loan after a move that had been in the works for several weeks. CeltsAreHere reported yesterday that Emenalo’s loan switch was expected to be completed later that evening, with Celtic not moving on from the Chelsea defender despite the delay.

That deal has now been confirmed, giving Martin O’Neill another option on the left side of defence.

Emenalo had visited Lennoxtown earlier in the window, but the move was held up while Celtic assessed his fitness. Queens Park Rangers and Watford were both interested in Emenalo, which complicated matters while Celtic waited on his fitness, with game time expected to be a major part of the player’s decision.

However, Celtic stayed in the race and have now got the deal over the line.

Speaking after completing the move, Emenalo said: (CelticPlayer), “It feels great to have joined Celtic, such a big club with a massive history.”

He added: “I knew a bit about Celtic, but I realised just how big the club is when I first visited!

“I know the club has such a huge support and that the fans here are so passionate for their club, so I’m going to do my best for them every time I play and try and play a role in our success.

“To have the chance to play for Celtic is very exciting to me. It fills me with confidence and I’m so happy that the club wanted to have me.

“I have spoken to the Manager and he’s a great guy with a lot of experience and a great coach, so I’m really looking forward to working with him.

“I’m going to work hard here and do everything I can to help the team and make an impact. Coming from Chelsea, it’s similar because of the expectations to win, and here at Celtic you’re expected to win everything, so I’m ready for that.”

Despite the announcement, Emenalo is not involved against Aberdeen tonight.

Kieran Tierney is also missing after failing to train in recent days, leaving O’Neill short on natural left-back options for the visit of the Dons. Liam Scales starts on the left side of defence, with Emenalo now set to wait for his first chance in a Celtic shirt.
