Celtic reportedly made a move to bring Greg Taylor back to the club on loan, according to Gazzetta in Greece.

Taylor left Celtic last summer after joining PAOK, but he has continually linked with a return to Glasgow. A possible return had been floated during the window as Celtic assessed left-back targets.

The report claims Celtic knocked on PAOK’s door over a loan deal for the 28-year-old, but the Greek side rejected the approach and were not prepared to discuss his exit.

Taylor’s situation at PAOK has also changed in recent weeks. He had been training and featuring for the Greek side in European qualifiers, and his role has now shifted under Razvan Lucescu.

The PAOK boss sees Taylor as an option in midfield as well as at left-back, which appears to have made their stance even firmer.

Lucescu said after PAOK’s game against Levadiakos: “I believe that Taylor can also play as a left back, but right now I consider him as a midfielder because he thinks very smartly.”

That comment gives a clear indication of how Taylor is being viewed in Greece. He is not simply cover at left-back. PAOK see his understanding of the game and use on the ball as something that can work in the middle of the park too.

CeltsAreHere reported last month that a Celtic return was looking increasingly unlikely, with Taylor involved at PAOK and other clubs also believed to be monitoring his situation.

Taylor had previously refused to rule out a future return to Celtic, but also made it clear he had two years left in Greece and wanted to succeed at PAOK.

Celtic have since signed Landon Emenalo on loan from Chelsea, while Liam Scales started on the left side of defence against Aberdeen with Kieran Tierney missing out.

Taylor was a reliable performer across his time at Celtic, but this one never moved far enough to become a realistic return. PAOK had little interest in letting him go, and his changing role under Lucescu only made that position stronger.
