Celtic seems to be on the lookout for a long-term successor to Joe Hart. The Englishman came in the door two and half years ago and has made the number one spot his own.

The veteran has done a commendable job, but his time at the club could be over by the end of the season when his contract ends. Due to this, the Hoops have been linked with a few stoppers, one of those being Caoimhin Kelleher.

Along with the Irishman, a new name has been named as a potential option, and that is Hakon Valdimarsson. Per Goteborgs-Posten (via Daily Record), the Celts are among several clubs interested in a move for the Elfsborg ‘keeper.

Anderlecht and Gent of Belgium are both said to want Valdimarsson but are unwilling to pay the £2.1 million Elfsborg want. Given the fact the hoops have done business with the Swedish side in the past with Gustaf Lagerbielke and the price is well within their budget, a move could be possible.

22 years of age, Valdimarsson has made 49 Elfsborg appearances since joining them from IF Grotta in 2021. He has just begun to get regular starts for his country Iceland, too, and is emerging as a young, impressive number one.

He certainly fits the bill of the kind of player Celtic would want to replace the (likely) departing Hart, but it remains to be seen if their interest will go beyond such a stage.
