Celtic have made their first social media post since Tuesday night’s humiliating Champions League exit to LASK, and it had absolutely nothing to do with what happened in Austria.

The club had remained completely quiet on their main social channels on Wednesday morning following a 5-1 defeat which somehow turned a commanding position in the tie into elimination.

When Celtic did eventually pop their head above the parapet, it was purely administrative.

“Our festive-period matches away to Dundee United (Dec 30) and Rangers (Jan 3) have been chosen for live TV coverage,” the club posted on X.

And then it was back to silence.

On any normal day, Celtic’s social channels would be busy. Training pictures, interviews, clips, merchandise and other club content are regularly pushed out throughout the day.

This, however, is not a normal day at Celtic.

There is little appetite to start filling supporters’ timelines with the usual content after a result of this magnitude. Celtic travelled to Austria with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg and Callum McGregor’s early goal made it 4-0 on aggregate.

LASK needed five goals from that point to knock Celtic out.

They scored five.

The 5-1 defeat after extra time sent the Austrian side through 5-4 on aggregate and dumped Celtic out of the Champions League in almost unimaginable circumstances.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor didn’t attempt to soften the blow afterwards either.

“We got what we deserved. I thought we looked so passive all night. We actually looked scared to go and win the game.

“To be honest I didn’t think we were that good in the first leg either and we kind of got away with it. But when you play like that you can’t have any excuse whatsoever.

“We have to apologise to our supporters because there’s no way we should lose that game. We’ll now see what we’re made of.”

There isn’t much Celtic can post right now that supporters particularly want to see.

The fixture update had to go out, particularly with two matches being moved for television, but beyond that the club appear happy to keep their head down.

That will have to change fairly quickly.

Celtic back in SPFL action This Weekend

Celtic are back in action against Falkirk on Saturday and attention will inevitably begin shifting towards that game as the week progresses. Training content and Martin O’Neill’s pre-match media duties will bring the club back into the public eye.

Until then, the silence is probably telling.

Tuesday night was not the type of European defeat that can simply be brushed aside with the usual stream of content the following morning.
