There are a few areas of concern within the Celtic squad at the minute, but one of those is not in midfield.

Despite this, leading into the January transfer window, the Hoops were linked with a move for South Korean centre-mid Jeong Ho-Yeon. When news of a potential deal initially surfaced, though, the manager of the 23-year-old stated he wasn’t ready for it.

The player seemed eager to come to Glasgow at the time, and he still is. Recently, however, he revealed he hasn’t heard anything regarding a transfer to the Scottish champions: “I haven’t heard anything about a move to Celtic”, he said (Jeonnam Ilbo via Football Scotland).

“The dream of challenging myself abroad is an ongoing process. I want to know where I stand and how I am viewed when I am in a new environment, and it will be an opportunity to mature as a player.”

There are three South Korean players currently on the books at Lennoxtown. Kwon is out on loan at St. Mirren, while Yang and Oh are currently at the Asian Cup.

Due to this, Jeong would likely find it easier to transition to life in Glasgow, but a switch seems unlikely. Even with Reo Hatate’s absence due to the Asian Cup, Brendan Rodgers has a strong midfield.

Paulo Bernardo’s recent emergence has further increased the Irishman’s options, and adding another man to an already deep engine room would seem somewhat nonsensical.

Other positions in the team should be focused on just now, such as left-back and striker. There is no need to bring in another midfielder this month, as much as Jeong may want to become a Celt.
