Valdimarsson is expected to arrive in London shortly to complete his medical before officially joining the Premier League side.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who has been playing for Swedish club Elfsborg, was a subject of interest from Celtic as they plan for life after Joe Hart, whose contract is due to expire this summer.

However, with Brentford agreeing to a deal worth around £2.6 million, they have effectively outmanoeuvred both Celtic and Aston Villa in securing Valdimarsson’s services.

This development comes with just a week remaining in the January transfer window, leaving Celtic with limited time to find an alternative solution for their goalkeeping position. Given the constraints of the transfer window, it seems increasingly unlikely that Celtic will be able to bring in a replacement for Hart this month.

Celtic’s search for a new goalkeeper will continue as they look towards the summer transfer window. The club’s ability to identify and secure a suitable candidate will be crucial, especially considering Hart’s impending contract expiration and the need to ensure stability and reliability in the goalkeeping position.
