Mark Hendry, a journalist with a track record of breaking Celtic transfer news, revealed on Thursday that the club was actively pursuing Polish striker Szymon Włodarczyk of Gornik Zabrze for a period of time before turning their attention to Cho Gue-sung.
The journalist’s report claims the bhoys even discussed a transfer fee for the Polish forward, but things went cold after the transfer talks.
I'd heard Celtic were interested in Szymon Włodarczyk of Gornik Zabrze. Faced a lot of competition. Podolski's favourite teammate. There was a period it was close and Celtic knew £3.5m was fee club wanted. No movement since initial approach and Cho now priority.@Football_Scot

Celtic have devoted their efforts to securing the signature of South Korean striker Cho Gue–sung. The Hoops have been working on the agreement for several weeks.
Despite no visible progress on the deal, Celtic have not been turned away in pursuing their preferred striking option. Rumours suggest there will be movement by the weekend one way or another.
The Włodarczyk is interesting; should Celtic miss out on Cho, it could be a transfer the bhoys revisit before the end of the month.
Celtic and Ange never enter a transfer window with just one target in mind for the desired positions they wish to fill. The club always make sure to cover all bases. Fans are becoming impatient because the deal for a front man is dragging on. However, with Giakoumakis still in the building and Kyogo in good form, there’s no hurry at this point in time.
