CELTIC might yet have the chance at some sort of redemption this season with an SFA source claiming the Scottish Cup will be played to a finish.

There have been major fears over the cup’s standing this season with the lower leagues being shut down for a prolonged period making playing fixtures in the tournament unworkable.

Last season’s Scottish cup was finally put to bed seven months after it was supposed to go ahead when Celtic beat Hearts in a penalty shootout to complete the quadruple treble.

While there’s no clear plan where and when the Scottish Cup will take place, the SFA have told SunSport, the competition will be played to a finish, which means we could see the cup creep into next term again.

“Discussions are ongoing to ensure the displaced Scottish Cup fixture rounds are rescheduled at the appropriate time.

“Obviously the suspension of football outwith the Premiership and Championship has impacted on the original calendar but we are committed to Scotland’s premier cup competition being completed when it is safe to do so, mindful of the current Scottish government restrictions.’

It means Celtic have one last shot at a trophy this season and they should do everything in their power to try and secure the Scottish Cup for a fifth consecutive season.

It would be a fitting way for some of the old guard to sign off if the cup was finished THIS season. If not, it could be a competition where new bhoys could lay down a marker.
