CELTIC winning the League Cup, taking a huge lead in the SPFL race and then watching Hearts dump the Ibrox club out of the Scottish Cup has set Steven Gerrard up for an embarrassing end to the season.

IF the Ibrox manager stays on, Celtic specifically are likely to condemn the manager to two whole seasons without winning a single trophy.

SunSport report that this would leave Gerrard matching a 68-year-old Ibrox record of not lifting silverware for two seasons. Given that was the old club, I don’t know how much stock they’ll hold in that.

The reason nobody lately managing Ibrox has taken on this mantle is because Celtic have seen off so many of their managers as they throw money away trying to stop Celtic.

The problem has always been the chase. The club and its supports refuse to show humility and lack an understanding of where they are. Without cash injections and breaking tax rules to incentivise players to sign, they’re struggling to hang onto our coattails.

Gerrard sticking around for whatever reason would see him become part of history. Probably not what he wanted.

  1. The tribute club, Gerrard and their fans condemned themselves with their arrogant false sense of entitlement, self inflicted agony is the sweetest pain to observe.
