It was back in August when Scott Bain’s season came to a grinding holt and maybe it was fate. The goalkeeper wasn’t at his best in the last few games for the clubs and when the Cluj game in the Champions League came along the player actually dislocated his thumb during the game.

That game will go down in the books as a massive own goal by Celtic who twice came back at Cluj and looked to qualify for the playoff round of the a Champions League.

A late collapse by Bain and the bhoys meant Cluj went through at the expense of Celtic with the goalkeeper not covering himself in glory.

Speaking about the injury, it appears the player spent half of the second half with a dislocated thumbs

“I dislocated my thumb during the second half of the Cluj game at Parkhead.” Bain told CelticTV.

“I made a save and my thumb hit the ground. I could feel in my glove it was facing the other way.

“I could feel it swelling in my glove as the play went on. I popped it back in and didn’t feel that bad, but the next morning it was really sore.

“It was weird I didn’t feel it at the time but that was probably down to the adrenaline flowing.

“I think that popping it back in straight away probably helped.

“It’s taken longer than expected to recover — but at least I didn’t need to have it cut off.

“I didn’t need surgery or anything. It could have been an issue if I needed an op, but it was fine.

“I was told not to move it and keep it in a splint. A splint in my glove will make sure it doesn’t snap off again!”

The goalkeeper is very lucky he didn’t need surgery and the complications it can bring. The naivety in his thinking kept on the field – you see season pros like Scott Brown telling the manager they need to come off if they feel the slightest twinge. Bain will learn from this and know not to continue if something like this happens again .
