Towards the end of last season, Celtic fullback Greg Taylor looked to have secured his place in the side at left-back after a run of games in which he impressed manager Neil Lennon. At the beginning of pre-season this seems to have continued.

He has featured in all three of the friendlies so far, against Nice, Lyon and PSG and has looked particularly impressive in these games. He also looks to have created a good understanding and relationship with left winger Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Speaking to the official Celtic website, Taylor spoke on how he is developing his game, with the likes of Elyounoussi and Callum McGregor, and how this has been a good pre-season tour for the squad and himself.

“All three of us – myself, Moi Elyounoussi and Callum McGregor – all like playing together. There’s a good understanding there and we’ve developed that over the last few weeks in pre-season. Hopefully that goes from strength to strength. I’m certainly enjoying it and I think the other two lads are as well.

Moi’s movement is top-class. I think he’ll play a massive part this season and be a massive player for us. I certainly enjoy having him in front of me and I think the boys certainly enjoy having him in the team. He scored again the other night and hopefully he can continue doing that.

For pre-season, it’s not often big attendances anyway, so we’re getting used to that. Of course, we’ll miss our fans when we’re back at home. They play a massive part and they push us on, but hopefully it won’t be too long – for them and for us – and we’ll try and put on a performance for them watching at home.”

In the last year, many could say the left-back position was a bit of a problem one for Neil Lennon and his coaching staff. In the first half of the season, the position looked to be Boli Bolingoli’s, after a impressive start to the season.

However, after his injury he was never really trusted by Lennon again. Which saw the introduction of Greg Taylor at the beginning of the year,.

Currently, going into the new season, the Scottish left back looks to have become first choice, in the eyes of the manager. Hopefully we can see the impact he can have over this season, through his performances.
