CARL STARFELT’S first competitive start for Sweden ended in injury for the Celtic defender who will now be sweating over his immediate fitness.

Carl had a small break in between the end of the season with Celtic and joining up with his country for the Nations League campaign. It was a big moment for the centre-back to get the starting XI nod and he’ll be disappointed his first competitive cap ended prematurely.

Early indications show Carl may have pulled his hamstring. If he has there could be an issue down the line for Celtic.

The bhoys are supposed to return on June 27 — although some of the international bhoys might get a little extra time on the back end of the summer to get an extra bit of rest in.

Hamstring injuries are notoriously problematic and putting a time on recovery can be tricky. Hopefully Carl is fit and ready to go for his Celtic return in a month.

The bhoys will have a very strenuous pre-season followed by a number of friendlies homes and abroad before they start their SPFL campaign at the end of July.
