Celtic fans hoped to see Ange Postecoglou’s replacement announcement on Friday, but it never came.
The widespread reports Brendan Rodgers is about to return to the role he left in 2019 have the fans gripped and in need of clarity.
Sources told CeltsAreHere there was a 50/50 chance of an announcement on Friday, and it’s transpired we’ve gone into the weekend with some uncertainty.
Interestingly, as we sit here on Saturday afternoon, the club has not made one social media communication since Friday morning! There has been a couple of retweets, but nothing more.
It’s highly irregular for the Celtic accounts to go silent, especially in a week when they dropped the new away kit, which is now available for pre-order. Usually, the marketing team are cramming content down our throats to ensure no stone is left unturned when selling brand-new merchandise.
We believe this is down to the multimedia team getting prepared and hovering their hand over the Brendan Rodgers button, awaiting the thumbs-up from the club hierarchy. Given that they stopped sending out tweets on Thursday, we believe they expected to push the aforementioned button before the weekend.
It would suggest to us that a Monday announcement is highly probable.
Celtic fans are rightly sceptical because they’ve done this dance before with Eddie Howe, only for it all to fall apart like a cheap suit.
As we sit here today, no one pundit or journalist peddling anything other than Rodgers will be the next manager. However, there is no journalist willing to stick their head above the parapet and say the deal is 100% signed, sealed and delivered.
We would be shocked to see anyone step into the role other than Brendan Rodgers at this point, but as we know, it’s not done, until the ink has hit the paper.
