The summer transfer window saw a lot of activity for Celtic, with nine new additions to the side.

As well as the significant incomings there were some big outgoings, shaping the squad for the season ahead.

Let’s dive deep into the financials and how the Hoops fared in terms of net spend. [Transfermarkt]

Incomings:

Celtic has bolstered their squad with an array of talent from across the globe:

  1. Maik Nawrocki – A deal worth £4.3 million.
  2. Luis Palma – Secured for £3.6 million.
  3. Gustaf Lagerbielke – A £2.9 million addition.
  4. Odin Thiago Holm – Bagged for £2.6 million.
  5. Hyunjun Yang – Priced at £2.1 million.
  6. Marco Tilio – The youngster was a £1.5 million acquisition.
  7. Hyeokkyu Kwon – The Asian sensation joined for a cool £850,000.
  8. Nat Phillips – A season-long loan.
  9. Paulo Bernardo – Another loan capture, with no fee reported for his option to buy clause.

The Hoops splashed a combined £15.25 million on new faces to rejuvenate their squad for the season ahead.

Outgoings:

Celtic waved goodbye to some of their players, both on permanent deals and loan moves:

  1. Jota – A significant departure, fetching the Hoops a colossal £25 million.
  2. Carl Starfelt – Sold for £4.3 million, matching the acquisition cost of Nawrocki.
  3. Conor Hazard – Moved on for £0.15 million.
  4. Sead Haksabanovic – Loaned out with no reported fee.
  5. Ismaila Soro – The midfielder left for an undisclosed amount, with transfermarkt leaving it as “?”.

The total revenue generated from the departures amounted to approximately £29.45 million.

Net Spend Analysis:

Considering the money spent on new recruits and the revenue generated from player sales, Celtic has a net gain of £14.2 million this summer window.

The club’s financial prudence, combined with the ability to cash in on key assets, has left them in a strong position. The management will be satisfied with the overall dealings, ensuring they have a refreshed squad while also maintaining a positive balance sheet.

It should hopefully mean that come the January transfer window, there can also be a few notable additions, with players like Kelleher already being linked for a move.

  1. You forgetting the reported 30% sell on clause to Benfica, aye? Your net gain now less than £7m, and probably way less again when you take into account the new deals for Kyogo, Abada, Maeda & McGregor….
