Chris Sutton has voiced concerns over Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers’ utilisation of striker Kyogo Furuhashi, suggesting the forward’s talents may be underused under the current tactical setup.

Kyogo has explosive pace and the ability to exploit spaces behind defences seems to be at odds with Rodgers’ preference for a slower, more methodical build-up play.

Kyogo, who thrived under former manager Ange Postecoglou’s high-tempo strategy, has found opportunities harder to come by since Rodgers took charge.

Despite notable performances, including key goals in the Champions League and derby matches this season, Kyogo’s role in the team has been increasingly marginalised.

Past signings like Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard, as well as recent addition Adam Idah, as evidence of the manager’s penchant for physically imposing forwards. This shift has left Kyogo, despite being one of the most dynamic attackers in Scotland, drop to the bench.

He wrote in the Daily Record:

“Brendan Rodgers has been outspoken about needing quality, yet he can’t find a way to get the best out of the highest-quality striker in the country. Now he’s been left out of the side. If that continues, could it lead to him inevitably looking to leave? Kyogo has gone from being the most-feared forward in Scotland to barely getting a chance in a game. It’s actually quite remarkable and, for me, it’s not got that much to do with the boy himself.

“Now listen, before I go any further, this is no slight on Adam Idah. The Irish striker was given an opportunity against Hibs and he grabbed it with his two goals. Idah might do well for Celtic, but don’t tell me he’s a better striker than Kyogo.

“It’s almost painful to see what has happened to the Japanese over the past few months. The guy scored 27 league goals in 31 starts last season. Eight in 21 this season. He is a difference maker. He’s shown it for two seasons as a big game player.”

  1. Rodgers is rank, he only won the league and cups uncontested.
Just look at his credentials, Celtic were in decline when he ran away, Leicester were relegated.
Yes the board are a major problem, so is Rodgers with dismantling a winning formula.

    • What nonsense.

The reason BR won the league & cups uncontested is because his teams blew Rangers and others away.

BR was not manager when Leicester were relegated & he won them the FA Cup for the only time in their history.

I get that some are still unhappy with his departure but that’s no reason to try to re-write history.

Kyogo has been off form this season, he’s not alone but when he misses sitters like he’s done in the last few games, that’s his fault, no one else and certainly not the manager.

We were poor in the last few months last season which is conveniently forgotten in the rush to look for an excuse to blame Brendan Rodgers.

Ange couldn’t get away quick enough after we laboured to beat ICT.

BR made it clear he needed new quality signings in January, any fan would back him in that plea, but our so-called recruitment department failed him and the support
