Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has spoken out against the Hoops over poor transfer business in the last two transfer windows.

With Celtic revealing a revenue of £85 million in the latest financial report, the Englishman spoke of his confusion over what’s going on at the club regarding the signing policy.

Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn joined in January, but with Rangers going five points ahead yesterday at the top of the table, that may prove to not be enough at the end of the season.

Sutton said [Sky Sports], “It took a while to come out, but the biggest takeaway I got from it was the line about identifying targets being unavailable.

“This has been going on for a long time. If you look at the recruitment in the summer and the nine players which Celtic signed, look at the centre-half situation. Nawrocki really hasn’t been a regular. Lagerbielke, Brendan’s disregarded very early on.

“You can go through all the summer signings. Luis Palma not getting a game today, his numbers have been okay.

“In January, they weren’t ready as well. I think Celtic supporters look at it like this: in the summer, they had the chance to absolutely bury Rangers, win the league, and get the Champions League riches. That hasn’t happened.”

Sutton’s comments are spot on, and with performances on the pitch falling below standards supporters expect, Celtic are rightly coming under criticism from the Englishman.

Celtic will be hopeful today against Motherwell they can put in a big performance and cut the points gap, but also the goal difference with Rangers now boasting a goal difference of 48, eight ahead of the Hoops.
