BT Sport pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has hit back at claims that have been made against Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard’s last few performances against St Mirren and Riga FC have left some fans unfairly questioning the Frenchman and why his form has been poor, with some suggestions surrounding his ‘attitude’ or possible injury problems.

But speaking on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra, Sutton has said those claims are harsh and that he is merely still trying to get up to speed like his fellow team-mates.

”Odsonne Edouard looked out of sorts. There are question marks over whether he’s still carrying an injury or could he be bothered? I think the ‘could he be bothered’ brigade, I’m not sure about at all.

“There were people casting that aspersion at him, which I thought was a little bit harsh. He’s just not up to speed yet, as a lot of Celtic players are.”

Personally, I definitely agree with Sutton on this one. Edouard is usually a standout performer for Neil Lennon’s side and he is bound to have off games every so often.

Some fans have a go at him because of this and come up with excuses like, ‘he can’t be bothered’, but we need to remember the guy isn’t superhuman and he is improving as a young player.

The 22-year old is just going through a bit of a poor spell at the moment, and despite that, he has still shown signs of magic in certain games. I have every faith that he will get himself back up to speed and firing for the hoops soon enough.
